Review of Love, Life & all that jazz.....

I love its tittle….it has a poetic ring to it plus the die hard romantic in me loves it 

Its a book about 4 college friends – Tania, Sameer, Vikram and Tanveer.. The story begins when they have just finished college and start their careers…

Tania and Sameer are having a steady relationship when he decides to go to UK for further studies and Tania starts a business with Ankur… Needless to say the relation goes through a turmoil…. But the question is will it survive the long distance?

On the other hand Tanveer who comes from a small town and a very poor family has started his job in a multinational bank with the most horrible boss one could have and the loveliest parsi girl as a housemate… will his small time thinking let him reach out to the girl who he has fallen in love with or will he just be a puppet in his cruel boss’s hand…

Vikram the casinova and the rich dad’s son in the novel is having an affair with a wanna be model, will he be able to handle the media attention that she gets? What will make a casinova like vikram change his attitude towards life?

And while all this is happening what happens to the friendships? Will they all ever come together as friends or will their life make them apart?

This book is primarily about relationships in the current context and that is what I liked about it. Their is no pretence in accepting that todays generation has moved ahead when it comes to relationships. We dont think like our parents used to, the book reflects the modern youth in a way which is real. There were part of the books I could totally relate. And that is what I really like about the book

What i didnt like about the book… Well its too predictable. U tend to know whats coming next but than may be its about our minds  My other problem with the book was (as usual) the grammatical errors and editing here and there but I believe thats been corrected in the next edition…

All in all I would say its a good time pass breezy read… A perfect for a flight or train read may be

REVIEW ON OFF COURSE I LOVE YOU..! TILL I FIND SOMEONE BETTER!

Well...I started reading this book last winter but left after reading some initial pages that I found full of some B-grade movie kind of stuff.....But now it is March 2012 & I have grown my MIND to somewhat more than before! Yes . Now I am old enough to think about the THINGS(or truly saying I have to!) and what Durjoy Dutta and Maanvi Ahuja have written seems to be happening everywhere!(sorry if you still living in some childhood!)

The whole story orbits around Deb, his love affairs,his friends and Delhi locations.

I read the whole book except that half page where Debashish explains those 25 sheets in front of his seniors and puke off the same lines as told by his best friend after college , Amit.

I think Amit is the only good thing that happens with him. Before that he had a long (but not too long..heh) list of night outs,fishing, breakups and a damn bad college life! And technically he F^^^ed his engineering degree for girls!

A must read but still I cant understand some pages specially: Deb finally gets a stable job and that too as a junior to Avantika, what would be their life after 5-6 years; the costume event! ; Vernita proves to be a girly character at the last night of college(k I have no doubt she is but not that typical kind of girl!);and character of Avantika's ex; and also how can Avantika become a black chapter of her boyfriends' life?

Books starts with Samriti, an average typical Indian girl. Page 161 ends with some unexpected and harsh break up with Avantika with whom he had the best time of his life, who was his first love in the 8 years life of puberty and with whom he wanted to spend the next 80 years of his life! And at last page......................ohk buddies I am not going to tell the end,page 261.

Just grab a copy and read it, afterall it will just cost you Rs. 100 only!!!!

My Resolution 2012

We all set our goals to give a direction to our lives. Some r short-term others long. Some r easy & achievable others hard n almost impossible. Some r public others private. Let us share the ones which r not private. I begin by stating my resolution for the coming year.........

I will never stop dreaming. I will keep on dreaming and will work hard to make my dreams true 2011 proved one of the best years of my life and Inshallah 2012 would also bring a lot of happiness for me

What is Ashura'a?

In the Islamic calendar, 10th day of the month of Muharram is the day of 'Ashoora, a day of mourning for all feeling Muslims. It is the day on which, in the year of 61 Hijri (680 AD), in a place called Karbala, in Iraq, Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet of Islam, sacrificed his life and the lives of many of his family members and friends, in order to save the teachings of Islam from utter distortion and destruction.

What led to this tragic event of Karbala?

Even in the lifetime of the Prophet of Islam, there were people whose tongues professed faith in Islam but whose hearts lay elsewhere. These people were called "Munafiqeen" (hypocrites) by the Holy Quran. The reasons that these people joined the ranks of Muslims were manifold, some of which were as follows:

1. Enmity towards Islam prompted them to sow discord among the Muslims from within, by distorting the Prophet's message wherever and however possible.
2. Islam was spreading fast and gaining power. They decided to join the winning side and seize whatever worldly gains they could lay their hands on.

The activities of such people gained impetus after the Prophet's passing away, and reached a peak when Muawiya, the son of Abu Sufyan, claimed himself the ruler of Syria.

The hypocrites were now in power and so they mounted a highly organized assault against the very roots of Islam, and they were on the verge of total success. Some of the priorities of the attack were to destroy the awareness of the common Muslims or to destroy their faculty of expression. This was achieved through bribes, through terror and through propagation of ignorance. When these weapons failed in silencing the tongue of a strong Muslim, then that tongue was silenced by death.

By all these means, within half a century after the Prophet's passing away, Islam had been distorted so much that it became totally unrecognizable, so unrecognizable that people knew of the debaucheries of Yazid, son of Muawiya, and still accepted him as a successor of the Prophet and a true leader of the Muslims.

With the advent of Yazid, the vilest of the vile, the mission of destroying the roots of Islam had reached its peak. The right and the wrong had been intermixed so much that it became impossible for a common man to differentiate between them.

This would have been the end of Islam, but for Hussain (AS = alayhi as-salaam, or peace be upon him), grandson of the Prophet (PBUH) and son of Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) and Fatima az-Zahra (AS).

What Imam Hussain did was to gather about him in Karbala the exalted members of his family and his hand-picked friends and companions, many of whom had been the companions of the Prophet (PBUH) and of Ali (AS) and of Imam Hasan (AS). These people were the very best examples of humanity in that period, or for that matter, in any period in the history of the world. Imam Hussain had virtually gathered the sum total of the strength of Islam to himself. This strength comprised not of physical might, but of moral might. With this strength, he proceeded to resist Yazid.

The fact that he traveled from Madinah toward Kufa with his family (including his infant son Ali Asghar AS) is a clear indication that it was not his intention to fight for Caliphate and worldly power. No. His aims were higher. He was fighting for the life of Islam.

His sermons, which he delivered in front of his companions during his journey from Madinah to Karbala, clearly indicate that he knew what was going to happen in the next few days. He informed his companions time and again, that he, and those who would accompany him, were going to die. He gave his companions a free and clear choice: death with him, or life away from him. His companions showed that they were fully prepared for the sacrifice of their lives in the company of Hussain (AS).

The purpose of this sacrifice was:

With his sacrifice, Hussain (AS) attracted to himself the eyes of all the free-thinking people of his time and of all the time to come. In that time of confusion, when right and wrong had become so intermixed that they had lost distinction, Hussain, in Karbala, irrevocably re-established that distinction, creating a clear, incisive demarkation between right and wrong, and leaving no doubts (for even the most prejudiced of historians) about the fact that the right lay with Hussain, and the wrong lay with those who opposed him. Establishing this fact, Hussain, through his words and actions and the words and actions of his companions, encapsulated all the teachings of Islam within a short span of time, in the field of Karbala, creating a beacon of light for the truth seekers of all times.

It is this event that is marked on the tenth of Muharram every year. It is this event that has made free thinking people of all times love Hussain with a selfless love beyond compare. And it is this love that expresses itself through mourning during the month of Muharram, and particularly on 'Ashoora, the 10th of Muharram, every year. The mourning is a way to remind oneself of Hussain's incomparable sacrifice, a way to thank him, a way to express love for him, and a way to broadcast to the world his message of true freedom.

SALAAM-e-AAKHIR

Salam qaak nasheenoun pah soghwaroun ka
Ghareeb detey hain pursa tumhare pyaroun ka

Salam un pah jinhe sharm khaye jaati hae
Khule saroun pah aseeri ki qaak aati hae

Story:

An emotional tale, the story begins with one Hakim Saab (manzar) whose wish is to have a son for taking the bloodline forward. In this process, his wife (zaib rehman) gives birth to fourteen children out of whom only seven survive. All of them are girls and when the eighth one is born, the child happens to be a hermaphrodite. This causes huge embarrassment to Hakim Saab and from then on, it goes to show t

he eighth child is treated and received by the rest of the siblings and family. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:

The director has come up with a thought provoking story line and while the presentation was neat, the narrative was not that strong. The dialogues were sensible at places, the script was well written and the screenplay was apt. Background score was good and almostall the songs were hummable. Cinematography was effective. Editing was regular. Costumes were colorful while the art department was appealing. Manzar Sehbai comes up with a matured

performance and is expressive. Humaima Malik was outstanding. Zaid Rehman was impressive. Not much for Atif Aslam except the songs and few scenes, same with Mahira Khan. The others did their bit as required.

Conclusion:

This is a film which comes from Pakistan and deals primarily with the women and their status in

society. While the first half goes about with the layering of the plot, the second half goes about with the various sentimental and melodrama elements. Overall, the makers must be applauded for the subject they chose. If only they had more depth and grip in the narrative, the impact would have been stronger. Since the storyline is rather thought provoking it would have select audience. The box office prospects are average to above average.

I think I am not authorized to review like an expert. But The film is really good. & People must think to have a copy in their collection of DVD's.

Review on Chetan's New work.....Revolution 2020

wassup....Sorry I am too busy these dayzz thats why I am away from my blog...Here I want to review the Chetan Bhagat's new book Revolution 2020. I have just finished the book & the review is as follows...:

This is Chetan's 5th book after four successive best sellers. With over 5 lakh pre – orders you could be forgiven for thinking that his latest offering was keenly awaited by his fans after a 2 year drought with his “2 States: The Story of My Marriage” releasing way back in 2009. With a title like “Revolution 2020″ and Love.Corruption.Ambition as its tagline / slogan, you expect something different from Chetan Bhagat this time. So does this book succeed? Let’s see!


Gopal is a relatively poor fellow whose barely making ends meet. He’s no stranger to struggles in life whether it is tackling the entrance exams of IITs and NITs or finding his ambition in life. He feels that only money can get you happiness. Raghav on the other hand is ready to mount a revolution against everything corrupt and wrong happening in the society. He believes that someone has to stand up against the system. Aarti is a happy go lucky girl who every guy would dream of having as his soul mate.


The three were the best of friends since school but “Love, Corruption and Ambition” combine together to bring differences between them. As you must have guessed it, both love the same girl and therein lies the main problem.

At its core, this book is a love story like any other Chetan story. But then the expose of the corrupt education system, the profit making private engineering colleges, issue of bribing etc. give the book a contemporary feel. Probably it wasn’t destined since he started writing the book 2 years back, but the issue of corruption has been reignited by Anna Hazare. And for the same reason a lot of readers would associate with the issues mentioned in the book pretty well.

By basing his story in Varanasi, Chetan has shown the willingness to go beyond the metros he has generally portrayed in his story and probably strike a cord with the semi urban populace. His descriptions of each and every ghat are fantastic which goes to show the amount of research he has put in for the same. Another interesting fact different from his earlier books is that the main protagonist is shown (at least in the first half) as someone who isn’t rich but generally has to save money to make do with things in his life.

But the book is predictable and ridden with cliches as usual. You normally know what to expect next. But nonethless the ending was a bit of surprise though yeah it does complete the melodrama pretty well. The premise of the story is interesting but many a time you feel as though things have been a bit extended. A crispier editing job could have made things a lot better.

The characters are pretty well etched it. Actually so well etched out that you can associate movie which actor would be portraying that particular role. The narrative and flow of the story is pretty good as it moves effortlessly from their childhood in Varanasi to Gopal’s coaching classes in Kota to them becoming adults.

Considering the title and the different set of expectations I had, its a bit of a disappointment. But for crazy Chetan fans, go for it! As a matter of fact if I am not wrong, this is Chetan’s most expensive book till date at an MRP of Rs 140. Wonder the reason behind such a hike? Was the content really worthed this hike?
